Happiness Evolutions in R/S/E & FR/LG|
A few Pokemon evolve based on happiness.
These Pokemon and evolutions include:
Chansey to Blissey
Eevee to Espeon (level up during the day time*)
Eevee to Umbreon (level up during the night time*)
Golbat to Crobat
Pichu to Pikachu
Igglybuff to Jigglypuff
Cleffa to Clefairy
Togepi to Togetic
Azurill to Marill
* There is no internal clock in FireRed or LeafGreen so you will not be able to get Espeon or Umbreon in these games, you will have to trade the Eevee to Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald and evolve it there. Do not make the Eevee happy in FRLG before trading it because happiness resets when you trade a Pokemon, so you will need to do it all over again in RSE anyway
To increase happiness you can do the following:
-Give your Pokemon a Soothe Bell to hold, to get the Soothe Bell:
Received from a person in the Pokemon Fan Club in Slateport if the first Pokemon in your party likes you enough.
In FRLG: Use the ItemFinder on the spot where Mr Fuji was standing at the top of Pokemon Tower in Lavendar Town.
-Feed your Pokemon vitamins like Carbos, Protein etc.
-Use your Pokemon in imporant battles like Gyms and the Elite Four
-Level up your Pokemon
-Walk around with your Pokemon in your party
-Get Daisy to groom your Pokemon in Pallet Town (FRLG only)
The following affect happiness negatively, so if you're trying to evolve via happiness, try to avoid these:
-Making your Pokemon faint in battle
-Using bitter medicines like Energy Root, Revival Herb, Energypowder and Heal Powder
-Trading your Pokemon [this resets the Pokemon's happiness]
To check your Pokemon's happiness, in Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald, speak to the woman in Verdanturf Town. Here's what she can say, in order from least happy, to most happy:
"This is a little hard for me to say... Your Pokemon simply detests you. Doesn't that make you uncomfortable?"
"It's very wary. It has scary viciousness in its eyes. It doesn't like you much at all."
"It's not very used to you yet. It neither loves nor hates you."
"It's getting used to you. It seems to believe in you."
"It likes you quite a lot. It seems to want to be babied a little."
"It seems very happy. It obviously likes you a whole lot."
"It adores you. It can't possibly love you any more. I even feel happy seeing it.
Once you get either of the last two sayings, your Pokemon should be happy enough to evolve when you level it up.
To check your Pokemon's happiness in FRLG, visit your rival's sister Daisy in Pallet Town. Here's what she can say in order from least happy to most happy:
"Um, it's not easy for me to say this, but... is there some reason your Pokemon would hate you so much?"
"I don't like the way it glares at you. Could you try being a little nicer to it?"
"It's not quite familiar with you yet."
"It's warming up to you. Trust must be growing between you."
"It's quite friendly with you. Keep being good to it."
"It looks very happy."
"It couldn't possibly love you any more than it does now. Your Pokemon is happy beyond words."
Once you get either of the last two sayings, your Pokemon should be happy enough to evolve when you get it up a level. (Remember that Eevee cannot evolve into Umbreon/Espeon in FRLG as there's no internal clock, so you will need to trade it to RSE.)
